Victor Borge, The Great Dane – A YouTube Concert

January26

I want to share with you a YouTube Concert in tribute to one of my very favorite performers, Victor Borge.  Victor’s secret was that he was both a brilliant comedian and a virtuoso pianist – and he never let his comedy get in the way of great piano playing, or his great music get in the way of brilliant comedy.  He was known as The Clown Prince of Denmark and The Great Dane. So let me get out of the way now, and invite you to enjoy a most unique and wonderful artist, preserved through the magic of YouTube.

To end with a grand finale, one of Victor Borge’s most famous pieces, Phonetic Punctuation, performed here by Victor with Dean Martin.

I hope you have enjoyed this concert/tribute as much as I enjoyed putting it together.  Victor was a true master, and is very much missed by many, including me.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, responses and memories in the comments.

I…LOVE…Victor Borge!!! I shouldn’t be surprised that you know about him but I am because no one seems to know who he is.

    Keep spreading the awesome, Andy!

    Thanks Hayden,

My grandmother introduced me to his work – she was a violist and lover of all kinds of music…
I actually have her viola in my closet, some day I will learn to play it.

Thanks for the memories. As a child, I was fascinated with his accent. He is one funny man. I appreciate his clean humor…. Today’s comedians could take a lesson from him.

I agree Kathy – I think that in most cases dirty humor isn’t funny but rater is using peoples discomfort to make them laugh – the more skilled the comedian, the less dirt is required… at least that’s my opinion.

At the same time, I think that our society has trained us to be uptight about many things that there’s just no reason to be uptight about….

I miss the Muppet Show! – There was a show about Borge on PBS during the last pledge drive and they offered a set of DVDs with everything he’d ever done. Would that I had the cash for that!

I miss the Muppet Show as well – but it seems that the muppets are on their way back – with the tv appearances and youtube videos and such – hopefully we’ll see more of them.

And I’d love that DVD set as well – sounds like a GREAT time.
